The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame's Class of 2002 honored a diverse group of influential artists and industry figures. Performer inductees included Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, known for their heartland rock sound; Talking Heads, pioneers of new wave and art rock; the Ramones, trailblazers of punk rock; soul singer Isaac Hayes; pop and country artist Brenda Lee; and Gene Pitney, recognized for his dramatic pop ballads. Guitarist Chet Atkins was honored with the Musical Excellence Award for his significant contributions to country and rock music. Additionally, Jim Stewart, co-founder of Stax Records, received the Ahmet Ertegun Award for his pivotal role in shaping soul music.
