ROCK HALL 1990 - INDUCTION PROGRAM

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame's Class of 1990 celebrated a diverse group of influential artists and industry figures. Performer inductees included The Who, known for their electrifying stage presence and contributions to the rock opera genre; Simon & Garfunkel, the folk-rock duo whose harmonious melodies defined a generation; The Kinks, pioneers of the British Invasion with their distinctive sound; The Platters, whose smooth vocal harmonies brought doo-wop to mainstream audiences; The Four Tops, Motown legends with a string of soulful hits; The Four Seasons, renowned for their falsetto-led pop anthems; and Bobby Darin, a versatile artist who seamlessly transitioned from rock and roll to jazz and pop. In the Early Influences category, blues singer Ma Rainey was honored for her foundational impact on the genre. Additionally, songwriters Gerry Goffin and Carole King, along with the prolific Motown team Holland–Dozier–Holland, received the Ahmet Ertegun Award for their significant contributions to the music industry.
